چکیده

Rice is cultivated worldwide on approximately 155 million hectares, accounting for 14% of world arable lands. The great challenge in rice agriculture is to increase rice production using limiting planting area and to minimize methane emissions from soil. In this review, I report the recent progresses in microbiological studies which are dedicated to the understanding of organic matter transformation in paddy fields. The cutting-age technologies have been rapidly developed and applied to environmental microbiology. One of such technologies is carbon stable isotope labeling in combination with molecular ecology tools, which has been proved very powerful in linking microbial community identities to specific biogeochemical processes in situ. This review will be focused on the application of stable isotope probing in the investigations of active microbes responsible for organic C transformation in the soil surrounding rice roots.

Stable isotope probing of bacterial community structure and gene expression in the rhizosphere of Arabidopsis thaliana.

The rhizosphere is an active compartment where plant and microorganisms establish a molecular dialogue. In this study, we analysed the impact of Arabidopsis thaliana on bacterial community structure and the expression of certain beneficial genes using DNA- and mRNA-SIP in the rhizosphere of plantlets grown under (13)CO(2) for 13, 21 and 27 days. DNA- and rRNA-SIP revealed changes in bacterial c...

Characterization and Potentials of Indigenous Oil-Degrading Bacteria Inhabiting the Rhizosphere of Wild Oat (Avena Fatua L.) in South West of Iran.

Background: The contamination of ecosystem with petroleum and its derivatives is con‌sidered as one of the most crucial environmental threat in Iran. Application of micro‌organisms has been demonstrated as an appropriate and more practical alternative to clean-up petroleum hydrocarbons in the contaminated environments. Objectives: The objectives of this study were isolating r...

Seasonal dynamics of bacterial and archaeal methanogenic communities in flooded rice fields and effect of drainage

We studied the resident (16S rDNA) and the active (16S rRNA) members of soil archaeal and bacterial communities during rice plant development by sampling three growth stages (vegetative, reproductive and maturity) under field conditions. Additionally, the microbial community was investigated in two non-flooded fields (unplanted, cultivated with upland maize) in order to monitor the reaction of ...

Bacterial Microbiota of Rice Roots: 16S-Based Taxonomic Profiling of Endophytic and Rhizospheric Diversity, Endophytes Isolation and Simplified Endophytic Community

Rice is currently the most important food crop in the world and we are only just beginning to study the bacterial associated microbiome. It is of importance to perform screenings of the core rice microbiota and also to develop new plant-microbe models and simplified communities for increasing our understanding about the formation and function of its microbiome. In order to begin to address this...

Activity and composition of methanotrophic bacterial communities in planted rice soil studied by flux measurements, analyses of pmoA gene and stable isotope probing of phospholipid fatty acids.

Methanotrophs in the rhizosphere of rice field ecosystems attenuate the emissions of CH(4) into the atmosphere and thus play an important role for the global cycle of this greenhouse gas. Therefore, we measured the activity and composition of the methanotrophic community in the rhizosphere of rice microcosms. Methane oxidation was determined by measuring the CH(4) flux in the presence and absen...
